Category 4: COMMUNITY OUTREACH
As environmentalists, we stay informed about climate change, what contributes to it, and its impact. We need to share our knowledge with those who are outside our environmental circle.

Here are a couple of ways you can have a positive impact by sharing knowledge:
-
Hold a SCREENING OF CHASING CORAL for a school or other non-environmental organization (religious institution, sports team, book club, etc.)

-
Arrange a PRESENTATION ABOUT SOLAR ENERGY for your home owner association or any other non-environmental organization. You may already know someone who can make the presentation. If not, here are some contacts who will either make the presentation or put you in touch with someone who will:
• In Palm Beach League of Women Voters Palm Beach
• In Broward Solar-Man aka Michael Pardo Ph: 954-401-2955
• In Miami-Dade League of Women Voters of Miami-Dade County
• In Monroe Florida Solar One

-
Propose your own community outreach action. E-mail us with what information you'd like to share with what group and how you plan to do so.

Proof of completion:
Visit the Report Action Page to provide details about your event. If you create a Facebook event, make @m4Osoutheastflorida a co-host. If you have permission from your attendees, upload pictures of the audience.

Category 5: SURFRIDER'S OCEAN FRIENDLY RESTAURANTS PROGRAM
An estimated 5-13 million tons of plastic enter our oceans each year from land-based sources. One of these land-based sources is restaurants. Plastic/Styrofoam to-go containers, plastic bags, and plastic straws are killing marine life every day. Surfrider has risen to the challenge by creating the Surfrider Ocean Friendly Restaurants Program. Learn about this wonderful program and work with a local restaurant to get them on board.
Proof of completion
Visit the Report Action Page to let us know which restaurant(s) is joining the OFR family.
Category 6: CITY COMMISSION MEETING
Think globally. Act locally. How green is your city? This action has 2 components: Research and Speak Up.
Research: Call your city/check your city's website to find answers to the following questions and enter the answers here. Feel free to ask additional environmental questions that you feel are important.

Does your city:
a. have storm drain filters to keep trash and contaminants from entering our waterways?
b. have community composting to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill?
c. require recycling for single-family homes?
d. require recycling for multi-unit homes?
e. require recycling for businesses?

Remember to enter the answers here.

Speak Up: Attend a City Commission meeting, sign up to speak during the public comments period, and ask that your city implement the above programs, if not already in place.
Suggestion: invite friends and family to go with you
-
You will make more of an impression when others nod in agreement as you speak
-
Have someone video your comments to be uploaded as proof of completion.

Proof of completion:
Be sure to have entered the answers to the questions. Then visit the Report Action Page to upload a video of your speaking at the city commission meeting.
